The piering was completed on Friday. They raised the east portion of the house 3". Over the course of the week they ran into issues with the stone wall foundation crumbling, they hit our sewer line and some nervous moments during the jacking process. Fortunately, all of these things were remedied and we were only without a working sewer line for one night. The jacking process (yes that is a technical term Megan Kerr) resulted in a lot of cracks in our walls, but we were expecting them. The majority of these walls are going to be demolished in the future and ones that aren't will be easy to patch.
Here are just a few pics of the damage:
Crack above curtain (behind TV) in living room. |
Wall crack to the left of the tv. |
Base of door (behind tv). The jacking actually pulled the door lock out of the wall. |
We've almost completely moved into the new detached garage and the back wall is painted. The paint color is random, because it is another can of $5 clearance paint from Lowes. We're still working on the insulation...very slowly. (And something is wrong with the camera, so this is the only photo I can share now.)
Demolition is continuing on the dining room (soon to be kitchen). We're down to the studs on all of the walls and part of the ceiling. So far we've encountered several disgusting mice nests which have not been fun. The previous owners did not have this house as tight as we would prefer and as a result they've had a lot of critters running through here. I'm thankful that we're discovering them now and getting them cleaned up so that it is not something that we find ten years from now.
Thank you. I was going to need some clarification on that. :)
