Goodbye

Today is the day we say “Goodbye” to our house in Brookside.  I know we’re definitely onto bigger and better things, but it still feels bittersweet.  So please bear with me a few minutes while I get all sappy and reminisce…

You could say this 100 year old house was love at first sight for Dan and I.  The first time we went through it we fell in love with it and from that moment on we couldn’t find a house that we liked better.  From the stone front porch to the original oak woodwork to even the little butler staircase, we just had to have it.  Two months later and only hours after getting engaged, we put in an offer and bought it.

Over the last three and half years of living here we have made a lot of memories.  It was the first house that Dan and I owned together and we shared many joys and laughs together as we navigated through marriage and the experiences of owning an older home.  The house taught us everything we now know about remodeling and at the same time a lot about each other.  It was here that we took on our first remodeling project of renovating two bathrooms at one time.  And then continued onto the next projects, which included completing the third bathroom, updating the kitchen, landscaping and building a family room in the basement.

It wasn't just the house that we loved, but the neighborhood that we were part of.  We were only minutes from the trolley trail and surrounded by a number of great neighbors always willing to invite us over for a glass of wine or offer up their tools for us to use.

All in all this house was pretty wonderful and a great place to begin our marriage.  We always knew that eventually we would outgrow it and when the opportunity for us to move to a larger house a few miles away arose we excitely took it.  Which leads us to this morning where we signed the papers and the new family will move in later this afternoon.  From today forward this house will be a home to another family, but we will always have a place for it in our hearts.
