Kitchen Ceiling

This weekend we made significant progress on the kitchen ceiling. On Friday evening we finished putting up the tongue and groove ceiling.

On Saturday our faux beams arrived.  These beams are typically very expensive and because of that we had planned on only having two beams, one on each side of the kitchen where the ceiling slopes. However my amazing husband found a deal on Craigslist that allowed us to purchase all of these beams for the price of two new beams. Some of these beams were slightly damaged, but they can easily be touched up. They also didn't come in the exact sizes we needed, but we cut them down to work with our design.  Now we just need to put up fake strapping at the joints and touch up a few spots and it's ready.

Obviously I'm very strong...or the 10.5" x 8.5" timber beam is just really light.

This is what happens when engineers design a ceiling.

This weekend we also painted the kitchen a light gray and sealed the stone fireplace.  New floors are to be installed tomorrow!
