The basement concrete work is complete and now it's time for the fun part! Fun, because the next steps are above ground and will go much faster. And fun because who doesn't like steel construction? :) Steel columns and beams were set on Friday. This week they are supposed to put down the steel deck which will support the garage slab and also backfill the soil around the basement walls. Forecast show four days of no rain!

Excavation
Our project has officially began and so far we have one big hole. It is about 10 feet deep and which eventually be our basement under the garage. Getting down into the hole on your own is easy, but climbing out is almost impossible without a ladder. I found this out the hard way while retrieving Tucker from the hole :)

Phase II Has Began!
It's official we have broke ground on Phase II. Last Friday Dan's parents helped us take down the original attached garage. Then today the contractor tore out the old slab and began excavating. We're excited!!

2015 Update
We've been doing a lot on the house lately, just no posts to prove it. We've finished projects in the master bedroom and new bathrooms, and we're starting to prepare for the second phase of major construction this spring. Here's where we are at:
Added crown molding to bedroom:

Progressing on existing guest bathroom and new 4th bathroom in our old extra bedroom/library. We've completed the sanitary plumbing, electrical and most of the framing:

Throwback Thursday
I can't believe how fast the last year has gone. This time last year we had just primed our new rooms, we were about to get wood floors installed, and were busy finishing our kitchen ceiling. Here's to a crazy, exhausting, but very rewarding 2014. We still have lots of hard work ahead of us, but at least we're now enjoying our beautiful kitchen, master closet, master bathroom and office.

Another Bathroom Bites the Dust
Less than 30 hours after we finished hosting our family Christmas celebration and before I could even get the master bathroom post up on the blog Dan was already hard at demolishing our last bathroom. I was initially hesitant to get started since I'm still recovering from my broken rib and I'm limited on how much I can participate, but now that he's all in I can't help but to be happy as I watch it all disappear. For the last three years I've used that bathroom daily and every time I thought to myself "someday, we'll have a clean, updated bathroom". Well that "someday" has finally arrived!!
